Guidelines for Authors:

 These guidelines are in accordance with the “Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals,” published by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors

 Authors: All authors should have participated sufficiently in the work to take public responsibility for the content. Written approval signed by all authors should be presented with the manuscript.

Important Note:
Abstract of all the manuscripts (Original Article, Short Communication) should be written in Structured Abstract format.
Structured Abstract contains objectives, background, method, result and conclusion. For Review Article (only by request from Editorial Board ) author may write the abstract as he or she wishes. There is no need to submit abstract for Letter to Editor.


Original Article:
Manuscripts: The manuscript should be submitted through our online submission option (http://ajms.alameenmedical.org) OR by email or CD format or typed in one side of A4 bond paper with double spaced having 3 cm margins from all the sides. The manuscript should be arranged in the following order: (1) Title page, (2) Abstract with Key words, (3) Introduction, (4) Materials and methods, (5) Results, (6) Discussion, (7) Acknowledgement (8) References, (9) Tables and (10) Figure. All the pages will be numbered. The original article should be confined to maximum of 4000 words. For short communication words limit is 2000 and for case report and letter to editor should not exceed maximum of 1500 words.
Title Page: This should contain the title of the paper, family name of each author preceded by initials/ given names, laboratory or institute where the work has been done with full address and name and full postal address of the author to whom correspondence regarding manuscripts should be sent. A running title should be given. No other page should contain the names of authors.
Abstract:
Normally not more than 200 words, this should consist of a series of brief statements of aim of study, the main findings and the conclusion reached and at least three key words.
Introduction:
Summarizes the rationale, provides a concise research background and states the objective of the study. Do not include any results or the conclusions of the study.
Methods:
Provide technical information about the study. Do not describe methodological details that have been published previously. Specifications should be mentioned for the main drugs, chemicals, and instruments. Statistical methods used in the study should also be incorporated in details.
Results:
The findings should be presented clearly and the text of results and data presented in tables or figures should complement with one another. Data should be presented in SI units except BP, which should be expressed in mmHg.
Discussion:
This should precisely deal with interpretation of results and must not be unnecessarily long and rambling. It should be pertinent to the data presented. Do not repeat the results or do not review the literature. Please end with a brief conclusion linking back to the aim of the study..
Acknowledgement:
These should be brief and specific.
Reference:
References are numbered consecutively in the order in which they appear in the text. Citations should be labeled with square bracket. All references should be cited. Unpublished data, personal communications, abstracts at meetings and manuscripts submitted for publication are not acceptable as references. References should be listed in numerical order in the Reference section. Journal titles should be abbreviated according to the list of Journals Indexed in Index Medicus or MEDLINE (www.nlm.nih.gov). Some examples:
Journal article up to six authors (list all authors): Das KK, Gupta AD, Dhundasi SA, Patil AM, Das SN, Ambekar JG. Effect of L-ascorbic acid on nickel-induced alterations in serum lipid profiles and liver histopathology of rats. J Basic Clin Physiol Pharmacol 2006;17(1): 29-44
In case of more than six authors use et al after sixth author.

Figures and tables: These should be kept to the minimum necessary to convey essential data, should be numbered. Line drawings, sufficiently thick for good reproduction, should be made with India ink on plain white paper or tracing paper. Legends or captions accompanying illustration should be typewritten on separate sheets but their position in the text should be indicated in the manuscript. An illustrative material should be in such a form as to admit photographic reproduction without retouching, redrawing or setting of marginal types. Photographs and microphotographs in glossy paper should be submitted unmounted.
Short communications: It will be processed on the basis of a quick decision and it should be limited to approximately 2000 words including an abstract of 100 words. Up to three tables and/or figures may be considered. References should not exceed more than fifteen. No key words are required.
Letter to the Editor: It should offer objective and constructive criticism of any article published in Al Ameen Journal of Medical Sciences. Letter may also include any scientific or medical interest for the readers. Length should not exceed more than 1500 words. Up to two tables and / or figures may be provided. References should not exceed more than ten. No key words are needed.
Ethics of the Investigation: All investigations involving human or animal research must conform with Helsinki Recommendations and ICMR guidelines on human and animal research.
Authors’ contribution: All the authors are asked to mention their individual contribution of the research article. Each of the authors must have certain amount of scientific contribution of the manuscript. Each of the author must sign and provide an undertaking that they are giving consent to publish this article.
Transfer of Author Copyright: Every article must be accompanied by a statement to the effect that the article has not been published before and that it will not be submitted to any other journal before a decision has been reached by Al Ameen Journal of Medical Sciences. Authors must attach a signed statement indicating that if the manuscript is accepted for publication in the journal, the copyright will be held by Al Ameen Charitable Fund Trust, Bangalore, Karnataka, India. The copyright transfer form may be downloaded from AJMS website.
Proofs and reprints: The corresponding author will receive proofs, which should be corrected and returned within 2 days of receipt. The author is responsible for proofreading the manuscript. The publisher is not responsible for any errors not marked by the author on the proof. Reprints may be ordered on the reprint order form, which will accompany the proofs.
Rejected manuscripts: Manuscripts that are not accepted for publication will not be returned to authors. Thus authors are kindly advised to keep copies (including pictures and tables) for themselves.
The Editorial Process: All papers submitted to Al Ameen Journal of Medical Sciences are subject to double blind peer review process. Initially the Editors will review all submitted manuscripts and reject the manuscripts which are poorly written and have no scientific importance. All manuscripts received are duly acknowledged. Manuscripts are sent to two expert reviewers without revealing the identity of the contributors to the reviewers. On the basis of their comments Editor will inform authors about the reviewers' comments and acceptance/rejection of manuscript. All efforts are made to complete the peer review and editorial processing at the earliest. All submissions first go through an internal peer review process, and most go through an external peer review process. Each submission is reviewed by the assigned editor who makes an initial decision to send the manuscript out for peer review or to reject without external review. Articles may be rejected at this stage for a variety of reasons. The editor identifies potential external reviewers seeking a balance of perspectives, such as clinical utility and rigor of the scientific methodology. Potential reviewers are contacted about their availability and interest in reviewing. Inquiries to reviewers are sent via E-mail messages, which include the manuscript abstract and the assignment deadline. After their consent Editor send manuscript by email.

Conflicts of Interest:All authors of submitting articles to the journal must disclose any conflict of interest they may have with an institution or any company whose product that is mentioned in the manuscript is important to the outcome of the study presented by them.
